Are you ready to push the boundaries of your creativity and engage with the world in dynamic, thought-provoking ways?

Join our dynamic community of artists and researchers at the Frank Mohr Institute!

We offer four distinct master's programmes:  Painting, MADtech (Media, Art, Design & Technology), iRAP (interRelational Art Practices), and MAPs (Materials in Artistic Practices), each designed to inspire, challenge, and support your unique artistic journey. These are the four programmes that we offer in our Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design.

The Institute offers a vibrant, international environment where artists can explore their potential, deepen their practice, and engage in collaborative and knowledge-sharing activities. In the first year, students participate in various modules such as Media, Materials, and Makers (MMM) Creative-Labs, Studio, Discourse & Practice, Present, Publish, Perform, and others, depending on their specific programme. Additionally, sessions like What Matters, Roundtables discussions, and research workshops are regularly held. In the second year, the focus is on the Graduation Programme, which consists of the thesis and final graduation project While each year has a distinct focus, both encourage students to share ideas, experiment, and develop innovative projects across disciplines and with external partners.

Furthermore, the curriculum includes trips to renowned art exhibitions and fairs, such as the Venice Biennale, Kassel Documenta, Manifesta, Ars Electronica, and other European art hubs like Berlin and Brighton, depending on your study programme. As part of this immersive experience, master’s students participate in exhibitions and projects with partner institutions, such as NP3 (an experimental art platform in Groningen), Sign (an interdisciplinary gallery), and Kunsthuis SYB (a residency promoting research and experimentation). Partnerships also extend to visual arts centers in Groningen and elsewhere in the Netherlands, such as the Institute for Unstable Media in Rotterdam.

The Frank Mohr Institute is intricately connected to our Research Centre Art and Society, which researches and develops new artistic practices in connection with various sectors in society. Both lecturers and students, thus inspired, are encouraged to collaborate with the Centre’s Professorships Image in Context and Art & Sustainability, and with external stakeholders alike.

Students have exhibited at festivals such as the Media Art Festival in Leeuwarden, GOGBOT in Enschede, Noorderzon in Groningen, and Kunstvlaai in Amsterdam. Collaborations with cultural institutions like Forum Images and the Grand Theatre add depth to the curriculum. Additionally, students can present their work during the Academy’s Open Days and the Graduation Show.

Join us and be part of a vibrant, international community of creators, where your ideas can flourish, and your artistic vision can make a lasting impact—FMI is the place for you.
