The Lithography Workshop offers you the opportunity to explore and master stone printing, a technique that was developed at the end of the 18th century and is considered a precursor to offset printing. In this form of “planographic” printing, the image or design is created on a smooth flat surface, originally limestone, and then inked and transferred onto paper or another material, relying on the principle that grease and water repel each other.
You gain hands-on experience in drawing or transferring images onto lithographic plates, preparing the plates for printing, and operating lithographic presses. The workshop provides access to various materials such as lithographic stones, polyester plates, and printing inks. You learn how to use modern techniques and technologies related to lithography, including digital methods for image preparation and manipulation.
