Commissioned by the province of Groningen, three works of art have been realized at the entrances of the National Park Lauwersmeer. The 6 meter high artworks have been given a place next to the main access roads to the National Park. They were designed by Susan van den Berg during her design studies at Minerva Academy, Hanze University Groningen.

Steel goose as gateway

The artwork consists of a corten steel plate bearing the name of the national park with ten curved steel tubes in the shape of a flying goose. It is based on the logo of National Park Lauwersmeer and inspired by the wind that is always present in the area. Visitors will encounter the works on Provincialeweg N361 near the barracks at Lauwersoog, the Gerbrandywei near the Hoek van de Bant and near Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen between the junction with Kwelderweg and Lorenzsluis.

Minerva Academy

To design the entrances, the province asked students at Academy Minerva to make a sketch, which were presented in March 2018. The sketch by then second-year student Susan van den Berg was selected. Van den Berg studied at Academy Minerva from 2015 to 2019 and recently completed her master's degree in Interior Architecture at ArtEZ Art Academy.

“It is very instructive and exciting to go through the whole realization process. There are then so many parties, questions and details involved that you hadn't thought about so much beforehand. I am grateful to have been given this opportunity. It feels unreal, but also super cool to be able to see the design in real life, to be able to stand in front of it and experience its size."- Susan van den Berg
